PUBLISHED METHODOLOGY

One category.
Two separate rankings.

Hydrolysed collagen peptides use gram-dose comparisons. Undenatured Type II capsules use milligram daily-dose comparisons. Their value rankings never cross.

Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides

30%
Ingredient & formula quality

Dose suitability, formula clarity, additives, sugars and evidence-based supporting ingredients.

25%
Value / effective serve

Real cost of the relevant gram-dose collagen serve—not merely the advertised scoop.

20%
Source, type & transparency

Source, type, origin, manufacture, traceability and relevant disclosures.

15%
Evidence & testing

Ingredient relevance, claim quality and disclosed exact-product or third-party testing.

10%
User rating

Published stars and review volume, adjusted for confidence; unavailable data receives a neutral score.

Undenatured Type II Capsules

30%
Ingredient & formula quality

The undenatured Type II ingredient and daily milligram dose are assessed against evidence for that exact form.

25%
Value / effective serve

Cost is calculated per evidence-relevant daily capsule dose—not per gram and never against powders.

20%
Source, type & transparency

Type II source, branded ingredient, origin, manufacture, traceability and relevant disclosures.

15%
Evidence & testing

Form-specific evidence, dose match, claim quality and disclosed exact-product or third-party testing.

10%
User rating

Published stars and review volume, adjusted for confidence; unavailable data receives a neutral score.

VALUE RULE

Beauty and general peptides

Value is normalised to the cost of 10 g of actual collagen, not the advertised scoop or number of “serves.” The 10 g unit is a comparison tool—not a claim that everyone should take 10 g.

FORM RULE

Joint products

Hydrolysed peptides are assessed in grams. Undenatured Type II is assessed in milligrams and against evidence for that form. Value is calculated only within the same form group.

RATING RULE

Ratings carry 10%, with confidence adjustment

We use a published aggregate star rating only when it can be matched to the product. A Bayesian adjustment pulls small samples toward a 4.5 category prior using 100 prior reviews, then converts the adjusted rating to a maximum of 10 points. Products without reliable rating data receive a neutral 5/10—not a reward or a severe penalty. Ratings describe customer experience, not clinical effectiveness.

SUGAR RULE

≤2% receives no penalty

We do not reward “zero sugar” marketing. Unsweetened formulas score well; naturally derived sweeteners are preferred where needed; artificial sweeteners receive a small deduction and high added sugar a larger one.

EVIDENCE RULE

Claims must be traceable

A brand phrase is not evidence. Higher status requires a named ingredient, relevant human evidence and a supplied amount that can be matched to that research.

TESTING RULE

Exact product, not brand halo

General GMP or “lab tested” statements are not treated like a public, exact-product or batch-specific report. Missing evidence is recorded as not verified; that is not a safety warning.

INDEPENDENCE RULE

Commercial relationships never change a score

Affiliate status, referral arrangements, free samples and commercial relationships are excluded from the rating calculation. Every product is assessed against the same published rules.

AVAILABILITY RULE

Meaningfully available locally

Products must have an official AU/NZ store, established local distributor or reputable local retail channel. Technical importability alone does not qualify.

Evidence foundations

The framework distinguishes collagen forms because published research uses very different doses and mechanisms. It also avoids presenting dietary supplements as medical treatment.
